MOOCs – free learning

Firstly, apologies for my recent absence. I’m back now, and in today’s post I shall point you in the direction of some free courses that may (or may not) be of interest.

I am referring to Futurelearn, a consortium of British universities, that offer free MOOCs (massive open online courses) in a wide variety of subjects. I am a great fan of MOOCs and have taken part in many myself. They are not accredited and won’t get you any points for REPs, but they are great for your own personal and professional development, and can’t hurt your CV!! Many are also certificated.

Anyway, a few coming up that may be of interest for those working in the fitness industry:

  1. The mind is flat: the shocking shallowness of human psychology – The University of Warwick: “Make better personal and professional decisions and consider the psychological dimension to key ethical and political choices.” It started a couple of days ago, but I think you can still enrol. It lasts 6 weeks.
  2. How to read your boss – The University of Nottingham: “How can we talk more effectively in the workplace? This course introduces linguistic techniques to enhance business communication.” Starts 27 Oct for 2 weeks.
  3. How to succeed at interviews – The University of Sheffield: “This free three week course provides the tools you need to succeed at interviews and land your dream job or course place.” Starts 3 Nov for 3 weeks.
  4. Ageing well: falls – Newcastle University: “Explore why people fall, discover practical methods to reduce the risk of falling and recognise when to seek expert help.” Starts 24 Nov for 4 weeks.

I shall add further posts later, pointing you to other places you can go to for free stuff. Enjoy.
